Sorry For The Inconvenience!
August 1st, 2009
Why? What did I do?
Rachel and I were having a conversation once upon a time. Grimly, we were talking about death, who might go first; you know, the kind of strange morbid topic that crops up now and again. Of course, we both share the Bible-based hope of living forever in a paradise earth under God’s Kingdom. Still, who can say what will happen tomorrow.
Anyway, Rachel wondered how we would be remembered and specifically what did I want written on my grave stone (or more realistically, my urn). She’s a love! Getting to the point, I thought for a while and replied, “Here lies Roy Ratcliffe; Rachel loved him… and he’s sorry for the inconvenience!” Or something along those lines. And so it stuck! It became Rachel-and-Roy humour. She says it sums up my personality. Not really sure what she means by that.
That’s the story. But I’m wondering if I should delete the subtitle in the header. Don’t want it to discourage potential Watchtower Library for Mac users. I wonder what folk think when they read, “Sorry for the inconvenience!” Can’t be very encouraging! To delete, or not to delete. What do you think?

I like it, and I don’t think it’s discouraging. Nice project, by the way.

I like the phrase as well. And since it is somehow connected to your life and personality, I think you should keep it.

Thanks “Captain” and Helge. I’ll keep it then. I was just a little worried that it might discourage.

Dear Brother, Thank you so very much for creating this program that we MAC users can have the WTLib on our MAC desktop without a partition. I need help with 2 issues. 1. Brother Patrick West of the US JW t-tools group created a way to link the Bible Highlights for Gen. to Rev.to the WTLib on PC. I could get CrossOver to recognize the links and I could see it in the Applications pull down menu. I do not know how to accomplish this with your application, or whether it is possible for the Bible Highlights to appear this way as it did in CrossOver. When I open this folder each of the Highlights for the Bible books shows the icon for your program. 2. I am also wondering if there is a way I can use your program to load the PDF version of the WTLib to the memory card for the HP/iPac PDA. I would so very much appreciate your help with these questions. Thank you kindly. Agapé. Sister Esther McGinty, Cupertino English Cong., California, USA.

Hey Roy, I think you should feel more positively about the effect you have on others. It’s hardly an inconvenience to be able to run WTLib on my Mac! You are a gem, you little hidden treasure you. :0)
I think a more suitable epitaph would be: “Temporarily buried treasure. See you soon.”

Dear Esther, Regarding your first issue, it may be possible especially considering that Watchtower Library for Mac and CrossOver do the same thing in practically the same way. However, I’m not quite clear about what it is that you were hoping it might do. By “recognize the links” are you referring to favourites? Not quite sure what you mean, sorry! Maybe you could point me to a page outlining the trick with CrossOver. And I’ll see what I can do.
Regarding Watchtower on iPhone, sorry no. It’s a whole other problem!
Thanks Lol! Your comment made Rachel laugh!! She agrees with you, she says.

I uninstalled the CrossOver when I decided to upload your application so I can’t tell you exactly how I added the Bible Highlight links. I do know that there was a way CrossOver allowed me to import the Bible Highlight links to the WTLib wine bottle so that when I went to Applications pull down menu, I would see the WTLib as a choice or Bible Highlights as a choice. If I clicked on Bible Highlights, I could choose which Bible book I wanted to see the Bible Highlights for. This was created as a link that would take you to the correct WT and page to read the Bible Highlights in the WT volume. It is used in conjunction with the WTLib. I hope I’ve explained this in an understandable way. Unfortunately, I am not very technologically knowledgeable as you unfortunately see from my question. Sorry about that. I see. So there was an application installed which links to Bible highlights. Where did you download it from? Was it TRU2005 for example?

The Bible Highlights links were sent by email to those who requested it by Brother Patrick West of JW t-tools group. If I had your email, I could forward his email to you, or email you directly with the attachment. Perhaps that would help the communication between us. Let me know if you wish to pursue this issue. If not, I may be able to find a workaround. Thank you for your time and wonderful work creating your program for us JW MAC users. Agapé. Sister Esther McGinty

Dear Esther, For the benefit of others with the same problem, I wonder if the best way to handle it is via the issue reporting pages here. You can submit files and other stuff such as screenshots. It was very useful during earlier stages of development. I think it can help again!

Dear Brother, We were thrilled to find your site, however we followed the instructions, and the W Library is somewhere in our computer, but we click on the icon and it does not open. We were able to open 2 times clicking on applications, but cannot open it again… can you please help this anxious Bible student??

Dear Patty, I’m not quite clear about what has happened. Perhaps you can call me via iChat at royratcliffe@jabber.org or via AIM screen name royratcliffe and you can show me what’s happening!

1. Keep the “Sorry for the inconvenience”. Even if we don’t fully understand it, I appreciate the humor. 2. What’s the cost of this wonderful program?
October 19th, 2009 at 07:15 PM
Dear Tomás, (1) Thanks. I will keep it. (2) It’s free! (Mt 10:8b)

Roy, On a MacBook Pro and a MacBook (that previously had CrossOver installed but that program had stopped working), I get the error “Watchtower Library quit unexpectedly”. I created a new user on the MacBook (to see if the problem resided in the Library of the original user) but got the same issue. Can you help? Is it a Wine issue (since CrossOver is also Wine-based)?
October 20th, 2009 at 06:48 PM
I don’t think it’s a Wine issue. CrossOver and WTLIB/Mac both use Wine, true. But their installation use separate builds in separate locations.
To me, it sounds like you have a missing framework. How did you install?
October 20th, 2009 at 07:11 PM
The CrossOver guy said that I may need to install X11. I’m trying that now.

That did it. Sorry for the inconvenience! ;-)

Leave it! If people don’t like it, they can keep moving.

sorry for the inconvenience :-) but i should write down first how i appreciate the w-for mac! thank you for all this work. Now to the first comment: it remebers me a little the final act of the hitchhickers guide to the galaxy and in a way its unconfortable to me.
