Watchtower Library for Mac v1.2
August 31st, 2009
Download the Disk Image. Double click the Watchtower Framework package. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
Drag the application to your Applications folder and run as normal.
X11 for Leopard 10.5
The application requires X11. If you have upgraded to Snow Leopard, skip this part. You already have the correct version of X11 installed.
If running Leopard 10.5, download and install X11, version 2.3.3.2! See To X11 or not to X11?.
When upgrading
You may notice a pause for a minute when running for the first time, when upgrading from an older version of Watchtower Library for Mac. This is normal. It only happens once.
If you have a question about upgrading, you might find the answer here. If not please post a comment; I’ll do my best to help you.
Installing for the first time
After running Watchtower Library for Mac you need to insert an official CD-ROM. After inserting the CD, the standard setup program launches automatically. Just follow the instructions as normal.
If for some reason the setup program does not run automatically, you can open the CD directory and drag Setup.exe to the Watchtower Library for Mac dock icon.

Oops. Sorry about that. My mistake. Thanks Alex. I’ve fixed the links.
September 1st, 2009 at 03:07 PM
Hi! I tested this version on Snow Leopard on a Macbook and works great! Even better then on a old Leopard.
Just one question, maybe it’s a little bug, when I stay with the pointer of the mouse on a link (for example a scripture) yellow popup with the text of the link correctly appear, but the problem is thata some seconds after this popup disappeare without any reason. It’s only for me or someone else having this problem?
Thanks a lot Roy, really ypur work is very very much appreciated.
September 1st, 2009 at 03:17 PM
Dear Renato, I haven’t noticed that problem myself. The tooltip remains until I move the mouse away! Wonder if anyone else has seen that??
September 1st, 2009 at 07:05 PM
Everytime I hit Comand-Q to quit the app it gives me a dialog box if I’m sure if I want to quit the app. Is there an option which I can select for the dialog box not to show up and actually quit the app with the command?
Thanks on the great job on making this possible.
September 1st, 2009 at 08:41 PM
Dear Ojai, I hope you don’t mind me commenting on this one. There is no option to disable the dialog box that you mentioned. I’ve been thinking about this and I don’t think it would be a good idea to remove it, let me explain and please let me know if I am mistaken.
Watchtower Library supports and runs other programs as well as the Society’s CD i.e. E-Sword. However, when you Command-Q, it closes everything you have running. For example – you are running the Library and E-Sword. You wish to close down the Library but still use E-Sword. Command-Q would close everything!
Also, sometimes a type-happy user comes along, like me, and presses Command-Q before realising that there was one more thing I needed to look up (it as happened to me on several occasions!).
So for these reasons I’d like the option to stay, but like I said before, my views might be mistaken. Please let me know what you think.

Hi Roy… 1.2 seems fine, just a couple little things of no consequence but thought you might like to know. Still only a blank opening splash screen, no Pinkish CD cover for WTLibrary startup. Second, if you are looking at anything in the right hand window and you click on “About Watchtower Library” The little about screen with icon comes up. If you click in that window and then use the your mouse scroll wheel to move the “About…” sceen down, it causes whatever is in the right window in WTLibrary to scroll too!!! Just thought you might like to know. Keep busy! New service year!
September 2nd, 2009 at 03:35 AM
Thank you very much for creating this “program”. I’ve been using Parallels and this is so much better
September 2nd, 2009 at 06:28 AM
Thanks for the time and effort that went into creating this beautiful provision. Also thank your wife for your time as well. Got a quick question for you. I have installed the new 1.2 version and when I go to install the 08 WT Lib, it tells me to shut down all other WTLIB programs before I can continue. I thought you said at one time that you could run many different versions on this at one time. I am kind of stumped as to how to find a work around so that I can install the new 08 LIB. I would appreciate any help you could offer. I am using snow leopard, with a macbook pro.
September 2nd, 2009 at 08:08 AM
Dear Craig, Thanks as always for the kind feedback. Much appreciated.
You are correct about the splash window. Here’s what I’ve noted. If you close the library window after its first launch. Then re-launch while Watchtower for Mac is running, the splash does appear. Hence this problem relates to launch timing. My guess is that by the time the image is ready to draw in the splash window, it’s too late: time to tear down the window! Hence you only see a blank window on the initial launch.
I decided before that I might take a look at this some time in the future, perhaps when I have an hour or so free (might not be soon though).
The other problem you mention, yes you’re right: scroll events get passed to the windows and they react even though they do not have focus. It’s true. I’ll put this one in the unusual “features” category of issues. Thanks for letting me know. Appreciate it.
Yes, new service year ahead! Made a good start yesterday.
September 2nd, 2009 at 09:08 AM
Josh and Brian, You are very welcome. It’s a joy to help brothers and sisters when and where we can. I’m just glad I could do something.
Brian, The message wants you to close the other running library window. You need to be running Watchtower Library for Mac but not running any library within it, when installing new libraries. Hope that makes some sense.
You can load and run as many libraries as you want. Synchronisation works too. However, the installer just wants you to close down the libraries (the Windows programs running within the pseudo-Windows environment on your Mac) while installing. Your system is perfect. You don’t need X11 and all should work well.
P.S. Thanks for thanking Rachel too. She’ll appreciate that! She’s done quite a bit of patience-stretching test work.
September 2nd, 2009 at 06:22 PM
Thanks Roy, I have finally downloaded your application. I was relying on crossover before but it wouldn’t load the WTLIB since I upgraded to Snow Leopard! Thanks to you and titch for all your hard work for all your bro & sis.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:49 PM
Dear Roy, I’d like to send You a warm thank you for this package. Not only I am able to continue using Watchtower Library on my Snow Leopard again, the copy & paste works now with text styles (bolds, centers and such), what wasn’t the case when I was using CrossOver. So again – thank You very much for Your hard work!
PS. One little ‘glitch’ is that the fonts aren’t antialiased or properly kerned and they don’t look very pretty. Is there a fix for that?
September 8th, 2009 at 08:32 AM
Dear Maciej, The font anti-aliasing issue is an old one. I’ve double-checked the defaults just to make sure they have not reverted to non-antialiased. Everything looks good. I’m seeing antialiased fonts on my machine.
So I wonder if you could check your Registry settings, following the outline described at Issue 3. It means picking through the conversation between Josh and myself. But it describes the basic diagnostic procedure.
I wonder if anyone else is seeing this problem, and if so, how many?
September 9th, 2009 at 05:45 AM
anybody know how to add the Watchtower cd to an iphone?
September 9th, 2009 at 07:11 AM
Thanks for the reply. This is weird, because in registry editor under HKCU/Control Panel there is no “Desktop” folder, also when searching, there is no match for “FontSmoothing” in whole registry. Any ideas why? The very first version of WTLib for Mac that I’ve installed is 1.2. I tried to install Wine a bit earlier, but failed to do so.
September 9th, 2009 at 09:02 PM
Heart and Soul 45! So far as I’m aware, there is currently no direct solution to running the full Watchtower Library on iPhone as you can on Windows Mobile-based platforms. Running iSilo with the PDB-converted data is the closest you can get.
Maciej, Sorry to point you to the Issue discussion. It’s not very succinct. Rachel had a look and gave up! So here is a to-the-point summary.
FontSmoothingin the search box.FontSmoothingwith value of2. This enables anti-aliased fonts.2but0instead, double click the entry to modify it and enter2.Note, any changes you make to the registry do not take immediate effect. You will need to close down any open library windows and re-open before you see the smoothed fonts.
September 9th, 2009 at 09:38 PM
Roy,
Maybe I didn’t write it clear – registry editor couldn’t find this value in my case. I’ve checked manually and there wasn’t even a key called “Desktop”, as in Issue 3. So I’ve created it and created String value “FontSmoothing” with value “2” there and voila – it worked! Kinda weird, but I am happy that it works.
My best regards to You!
September 10th, 2009 at 08:18 PM
Roy, thank you very much. I’ve just checked Russian version of WL2008. General functions work fine. I had a little problem with opening bookmarked link. It worked only with the application already running and does not open the proper page if you just start the app by clicking on *.wtfav file. Once again THANK YOU.
September 10th, 2009 at 09:30 PM
I would like to thank Ray, Rachel, & everyone that has contributed to the WT for Mac project. Copy & Paste is now working great. Windows XP Spider Solitaire works too, except for the Show Available Moves command… I can now remove Fusion and Windows from my wife’s Mac. Thanks :)
September 10th, 2009 at 09:32 PM
Sorry Roy… I mean Roy not Ray….. :)
September 10th, 2009 at 10:14 PM
Maciej, I’m glad it worked out in the end. Though I’m somewhat puzzled as to how Font Smoothing would not be working. I only hope others haven’t hit that problem too!
Oleg, Thanks for checking out the Russian version. You are right about the launch via
wtfavfavourites files. I see the same with English and Simplified Chinese. You have to run the library first.Pablo, Yes indeed, it will run various other Windows programs too; it’s just Wine!
September 11th, 2009 at 11:09 PM
Hi. Roy. My name is yoshi and im here to say thank you for creating this application. I have been looking forward this kind of soft for 2years since I stared to use macbook. After I installed this application and WL I found out I cant type japanese in the search box. I installed japanese WL. Dose this application not correspond to other language? or is there any solution? I tried copy and paste which I typed in other program and copy and pasted to search box. It worked but if I can type in directory into the box, it will much helpful. again, for all of your work, I give all the appreciation with warm christian love.
September 12th, 2009 at 09:11 PM
Hello again Roy,
I have another bug report – favorites doesn’t work. It goes like this: I click “Add to favorites”, click Ok to confirm, check again the Favorites menu and there’s nothing there! When I check the folder structure, it looks like this: Program Files/Watchtower/Watchtower Library 2008/P/Watchtower/Research Favorites/P/[*.wtfav files here]
Oh, and I’m using the polish version of library.
September 14th, 2009 at 06:26 PM
Dear Yoshi, I find the same problem with Simplified Chinese. Unfortunately, it’s not an easy problem to resolve. The simple issue is that XQuartz does not cooperate with the Mac input method infrastructure. Hence, either X11 needs better support for Mac, or Wine needs a direct connection to Mac, bypassing X11 as Watchtower Library for Mac does with the clipboard. Latter may be possible, but needs some thinking about.
September 14th, 2009 at 06:41 PM
Dear Maciej, There is a problem with updating the Favourites menu. The library program does not update automatically when you open the menu. Instead you need to restart the library to refresh. Not good.
The work around is to manipulate the favourites directly using Mac Finder. If you click the Watchtower Library for Mac’s application menu, you will find a Reveal Research Favourites option. Select this and the Mac app will open the favourites using Finder. Move them around at will. Double-clicking a favourite jumps you back to a library at the correct position.
September 15th, 2009 at 10:00 PM
Hello, I just want to say thank you for making it possible to access the wt. library on my mac, recently got a message from a friend that I could contact your website to have the soft ware downloaded on my mac, at first I kept thinking something was wrong as it took awhile to download but finally walked away and here came the library. Just in time to prepare my talk too. Thanks again.
September 19th, 2009 at 05:11 AM
Dear Roy, I really appreciate this loving provision. It used to work perfectly on Leopard but since I upgraded to Snow Leopard it stopped working. My brother bought a new computer and he had no problems, but my father has a Macbook Air and it stopped working when he upgraded too. I have looked and looked but I can’t figure out what’s wrong. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks again…
September 19th, 2009 at 08:27 AM
Roy,
Sadly, the “reveal favourites” (“Pokaz ulubione” in polish) doesn’t work. It just does nothing when clicked. Maybe it’s because diffrent directory structure in polish? I posted in above.
September 19th, 2009 at 07:01 PM
Dear Lali, Glad it worked for you in the end. Yes, the initial install can take a while.
Dear Jose, Have you upgraded to version 1.2? This latest version works on Snow Leopard.
Dear Maciej, Could you try a little experiment for me? Make sure the application is not running.
Right-click on the Watchtower Library application. Select Show Package Contents. Find the following file
Contents/Resources/pl.lproj/Localizable.strings. Open this and change the following items. Please make the following changes then save.
When you re-launch the application, can you now see the research favourites?
September 23rd, 2009 at 08:56 AM
Roy, I already posted thanks. But still want to thank you one more time. I have a question to ask: I installed Russian version on a desktop Mac and already posted info on *.wtfav files. But this time I installed Russian WL 2008 on my MacBook and I realized that I can’t type in Russian in the searchbox. Is there anything I can set to start typing in Russian?
September 23rd, 2009 at 06:51 PM
Roy, just to make clear my previous message. Searchbox works fine with Russian version installed on the desktop Mac. It just does not allow to type in Russian on MacBook. I have probably missed something during the installation or did something wrong.
September 23rd, 2009 at 08:50 PM
Dear Oleg, Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. So you have two machines, both running Snow Leopard presumably, but one works, one does not. Does that sum it up correctly? If so, that’s strange.
September 24th, 2009 at 07:47 AM
Roy,
I’ve made the changes You specified, still no luck though…
September 24th, 2009 at 08:12 AM
Dear Maciej, Let me see if I can get hold of a Polish edition CD-ROM. There is a Polish group in our neighbour congregation!
September 24th, 2009 at 11:02 AM
Roy, I have two macs with latest Leopard installed on both (not Snow Leopard – the family edition has not arrived to Russia yet). And yes: one allows to type in Russian while other does not. Any ideas.
September 24th, 2009 at 11:20 AM
After some testing, I have noted an important point. You need to select the Input Source before launching Watchtower Library for Mac. Changing the Input Source has no effect after launching the app. So could you try closing down the app, selecting Russian then relaunching. Can you now type Cyrillic?
September 28th, 2009 at 02:12 AM
I’ve successfully loaded your application, but cannot load the WTLib 2008. I inserted the Library CD and waited for your program to recognize the CD and begin loading. This did not work, so I opened the Library CD and dragged the Setup.exe to the application icon on the Dock. This did not activate the WTLib setup to install. Do you have any suggestions please? Thank you for this wonderful program. I know that it has worked for many others. Thank you Brother. Agapé, Bernice Sakuma (Pioneer in Cupertino Chinese Cong., California, USA
September 29th, 2009 at 07:31 AM
Hi Bernice, Autolaunch only works on official CD-ROMs. Do you have an original that you might try? Also, when dragging
Setup.exe, please make sure that you let go over the icon. During testing, my Rachel found that it seemed not to work, but actually she was droppingSetup.exeslightly off the icon!September 29th, 2009 at 07:35 AM
Bernice, I had the same problem and was able to solve the problem only after removing the entire WTlib along with WINE that it installs,,I used a program like CleanApp or Appcleaner(Its Free)any of these would be fine to use as long as you turn on SmartDelete for AppCleaner or logging for CleanApp. I then tried to install Roy’s WTlib just like I would normally, then go to Appcleaner or Cleanapp and delete anything that the app installed. In other words I am making sure that I clean off of Mac anything related to Wtlib,,,,then reinstall following the directions closely…Should solve the problem! Greetings from Colorado
October 1st, 2009 at 11:32 PM
Thank you so much Roy – this is terrific – I have parallels and can run WTlib using that but that was pretty much why I had bought parallels and windows XP so I could run the WTlib – this will save so many that extra cost & frustration. Many thanks for the time and effort this must have taken you :-)
October 3rd, 2009 at 08:45 PM
Dear Roy, firstable a big thank you for your hard word in building up this fabulous application. I have installed it and my WT library work perfectly in my MacBook Air. Could you please answer me two questions: -First, and just as a matter of curiosity, where all the WTlib files are located in my Mac? -And second, how should I proceed to add or remove different version of WTLib? Looking forward your reply. Keep up the good work mate!
October 4th, 2009 at 09:46 AM
One last question: if i run different WTlib, is there a way to lunch only one WTlib at time?
October 5th, 2009 at 01:19 PM
Brother Roy I am a betelite in Brazil brach, Thank you very much for you help, me an seven betelites din’t run WTlibrary, but now we can.
October 6th, 2009 at 02:15 PM
Roy, many congratulations and much love and thanks for this programme. As a long time Mac user, it’s been a horror show for me to try to run the WTLib. But now I can! Hurrah! It’s made such a difference to our Family Worship, I really can’t thank you enough.
October 6th, 2009 at 05:05 PM
Dear Jhonn, I’ve posted an answer to your first question here.
Your second and third questions are not too clear. Do you mean different editions of the official Watchtower library, e.g. English and Spanish? Or do you mean different versions of Watchtower Library for Mac on the same machine?
October 6th, 2009 at 05:19 PM
Dear Daniel, Greetings to you and the brothers there at the Brazil branch. I’m glad you found the software useful. For a change, it’s really nice to give something back to you brothers working so hard at the branch facilities! Thank you all too!!
Thanks James!
October 6th, 2009 at 08:18 PM
Hello Roy! First of all i must thank you for the wonderful project that you have made! I ihave macbook pro and snow leopard installed and recently installed the new 1.2 version of wtlib4mac with the Greek version of the official Cd-Rom library. The only and big problem i have is that when i have the greek keyboard enable i can’t type all the greek characters in the search box just only about the half of them! When i tried to change to english keyboard i had no problem or even Rusian! The problem only remains on Greeks! I even tried to switch to Greek polytonic but still tha same problem! I would like your help please!! Thank you!
October 8th, 2009 at 12:11 AM
From Brazil. Thank you Brother Roy for your install for Mac OSX. I have used Watchtower Library with crossover, but is very slow. Now is running fast with your patch. Keep the good work. I´m running under Snow Leopard, I have some little issue with portuguese cd rom while install while loading, not a big problem. I hope to see these install into official site. Thank´s a lot! ;-)
October 8th, 2009 at 11:28 PM
Hi Roy, thanks for your reply. About my two questions, let me rephrase them. I have installed 2 different versions of WTlib (one in English and one in French) First, when I lunch Watchtower Library, the 2 WTlib will open. Is there way to open only one at time? Second: How do I proceed if I want to remove one of the 2 WTlib? Thanks for your good work. Jhonn from Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.
October 9th, 2009 at 04:43 AM
Dear Roy, I’m the brother from Taiwan again… I think I find the problem for why I can’t save the favourites under the Chinese version. It’s about the chinese character it doesn’t work under X11. When I changed the file name into english, it can be saved! Well, thank you anyway!
October 9th, 2009 at 06:17 PM
Thanks Evans. I’ve hopefully fixed the Greek keyboard problem. See 1.2.1. Please give it a spin. Hopefully it will fix the Greek keyboard without upsetting any other keyboard layout. Could you check against Russian and Portuguese too. Please let me know if you find any problems.
Weber, Are you using an original CD-ROM?
Jhonn, I see. You have two editions installed. Do they both launch? You can adjust the Launch at Startup setting under Customise in the Applications menu.
David, Thanks for the feedback. That is useful to know. It must be something to do with filename translation between Mac and Windows, I guess. Could you file it as a bug and I’ll try to get around to looking at it?
October 10th, 2009 at 03:56 PM
Roy I must thank you for fixing that bug with the Greek keyboard! everything works just fine for the greek version of library 2008. All the Greek Mac Brothers and sisters are greatful to you!!!! Keep up the good work!
October 10th, 2009 at 10:58 PM
Thank you Roy! your answer was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again!
October 11th, 2009 at 03:49 AM
Great work Roy, have you packaged up IE7 in a similar easy to install fashion for the Mac?
October 11th, 2009 at 07:03 PM
Just wanted to say thank you very much for this excellent program. It works a treat!
October 12th, 2009 at 08:13 AM
I wanted to thank you for putting this together, it works great! You may want to consider placing a note in the install instructions to “be patient” when installing. I cancelled many times thinking it had locked up and I thought I had to change the file structure away from “c:/”. Anyway, in the end it’s all good. Thanks again!
October 12th, 2009 at 10:44 AM
Hi, i followed the installation instructions on my Macbook (Leopard) but nothing happens. The WT Lib setup does not start automatically and if i drag the setup.exe file on the WtLib dock icon, no reaction at all. What can i do? Thanks!
October 13th, 2009 at 09:22 PM
Josh, Good idea. Thanks.
“Ppchriss”, Perhaps you could file a support issue at the development site. You can upload your Console log and together discover what the problem is!
October 15th, 2009 at 02:05 AM
Hi again, yes Roy! I´m using an original CDROM Portuguese! Maybe my CDROM drive have a problem when loading the CDROM, but is a macmini with one year only. Watchtower Library is installed and fully working now. I have reported only some lags when load CDROM, Maybe wine. I don´t know, and for now I cannot reproduce to you step by step. Thanks a lot!
October 19th, 2009 at 11:46 AM
Hi Roy, thanks so much for this program! The installation worked well!
I am having just one issue. I am wondering how to run Watchtower Library after installation. At the moment, I have to right click the program on the dock, go to applications and then click Watchtower Library. Is there a way to run the program with just a single click?
October 19th, 2009 at 12:15 PM
Hi Nikhil George. When you have Watchtower Library open, click on Applications then Customize. Highlight Watchtower Library then you have a pull down option to launch it at setup. This should now open automatically when you click on your dock icon. Hope this helps.
October 19th, 2009 at 12:34 PM
Just wondering if you have WTlib for iPhones in Spanish and or portugues??? And if it does exist will I be able to install both into isilo or all three English/Spanish/Portuguese ?
October 19th, 2009 at 09:26 PM
Thank you very much for this effort. I’ve been very much discouraged to use my Mac, but now (thanks to your fine piece of software) I can make good use of it.
October 20th, 2009 at 07:39 PM
Do you have a solution for an iphone ?
Can we install WL on an iphone ?
Thank you!
October 21st, 2009 at 10:39 AM
Roy, thanks a million! No more Parallels implementation! I had written Information Services in NY close to 2 years ago with a hint, but they had more or less replied that they had no intention of porting to the Mac OS. Pity. Your solution fills the gap, at least for now.
Thanks again!
October 24th, 2009 at 01:37 AM
Hello Roy, I am running OS X 10.5.8 and when I initially tried installing your program everything went smooth but I had to stop the WTLib CD-ROM installation. When I have more time to come back and finish it your program kept saying that it was stopped unexpectedly and I kept hitting the relaunch button but no success. I tried deleting the program and reinstalling I rebooted several times to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.
October 24th, 2009 at 06:22 AM
Thank you Roy!
I wish I found out about this application sooner. What with all the brother buying Macs now, the brothers can finally retire their boat anchors!
Nicely done my good man! It works perfectly!
Cheers
Timothy
October 24th, 2009 at 02:37 PM
Dear Alex, Sorry to hear that headquarters aren’t planning to do a Mac edition. That would be ideal. We could throw away all the Wine and X11 troubles. Perhaps things will change in future if Apple gear becomes more mainstream.
October 24th, 2009 at 02:44 PM
Dear Kenneth, Sorry about the trouble you’re having.
What version of Watchtower Library for Mac are you running, 1.2? Could you run Console log and post the error messages to a support issue. That way I can see what’s happening, or not happening as the case might be!

Roy, I forgot I’m using WTLib 2008 and v1.2
October 25th, 2009 at 07:55 AM
Dear Kenneth, You have all the right versions. That’s a strange problem. I’m guessing it is some corruption of the framework. “No suitable image found” is saying that it cannot find the Intel machine code image from the Wine library. You are running on an Intel Mac, I assume. You might try reinstalling.
October 25th, 2009 at 12:08 PM
Roy, Yes I’m running on an intel Mac and I’ve tried reinstalling several times. Thanks for your help. Before I have to stop the installation process everything was working like it should. It was after I tried resuming the installation that I ran into some problems. Thanks again.
October 25th, 2009 at 05:43 PM
Hi Kenneth, So you tried reinstalling. No joy. And you previously interrupted installation.
Could you try removing the application support folder at
Library/Application Support/Watchtower Library. Drag this to Trash. Make sure you aren’t running Watchtower Library for Mac, first. Then launch the app. Does it run, albeit without a library installed as yet?October 25th, 2009 at 08:55 PM
Hello Roy, I’m wondering if that’s my problem because I see no support folder in Library.
October 26th, 2009 at 06:45 PM
I’m having the same problem as Kenneth, but mine occurred when I tried to upgrade to newest version. Previously WTLIB worked fine now it won’t launch and error message is the same as Kenneth’s. I’m suddenly realising how much I realised on your wonderful work now it’s gone. Also where do I find Library? being new to mac I keep trying to understand folders like windows and getting lost
October 26th, 2009 at 06:50 PM
Found the support folder and moved to trash – didn’t make any difference application still won’t launch
October 26th, 2009 at 09:01 PM
Lori, where did you happen to find the support folder? Was it in another location?
October 26th, 2009 at 10:21 PM
Dear Kenneth and Lori,
Libraryis off your home directory;Application Supportoff that. However, its presence or absence does not cause program termination. It sounds more like a version mismatch between the framework and the app. Either that, or corruption of the files during installation, for whatever reason.
I’m trying to think of the best way to help you. I can’t replicate the problem. So what can I do to help you fix it? I could do some step-by-step diagnostics in video form. Would that help?
October 26th, 2009 at 11:46 PM
Roy, many thanks for your help thus far. I was able to locate that folder and dump it to trash but still wont launch. I’ll keep trying…regards kenneth
October 27th, 2009 at 01:33 AM
Roy, GREAT NEWS. I used my MacTuneUp software and cleaned up some stuff. Restarted and downloaded WTLib for Mac and it WORKED. Thanks for your patience.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:28 AM
Hi Roy,thanks so much for trying to help. Great news for Kenneth I’ll try that when I get home (at work at moment).I told a brother about your app as he has just bought a new Macbook and he has experienced the same problem. It was his first time trying to download from the link on this page. Any diagnostic help appreciated. Many thanks again for your great work, what a fantastic brotherhood we have!
October 27th, 2009 at 02:11 PM
Dear Kenneth and Lori, I’m glad it’s working for you Kenneth. I’d really like to know what the problem was though. I hope others do not run into such difficulties.
October 27th, 2009 at 02:39 PM
I discovered that the file .Xauthority was corrupted. For that reason the installation did not start. I change the user rights to the file (chmod) and now it does work smmothly. Thanks Roy for your very good job!
October 27th, 2009 at 03:03 PM
Well that’s interesting! Thanks Ppchriss. I wonder if that’s the source of Kenneth and Lori’s problems. I have permissions on
.Xauthorityas:Hence read-write for owner only. What condition where they in before it started working for you?
October 27th, 2009 at 04:27 PM
Dear Roy/Ppchriss how do I find the file .Xauthority? What should the user rights be?Any step by step guide to help solve my problem really appreciated
October 27th, 2009 at 06:31 PM
Do you have an older version of this program that will run on OS 10.4? I can’t seem to make the new program work with my older OS. Let me know. Thanks.
October 27th, 2009 at 08:58 PM
Hi Roy, nothing I try works. As the previous version worked is there any way I can download the previous version of WTLIB. I have Leopard and I’ve tried the suggestions but to no avail, I really wish I hadn’t been curious about upgrading. Thanks again
October 27th, 2009 at 09:44 PM
Dear Lori, You can download 1.2 (the latest stable release) here. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I’m currently working on that odd little snag that seems to be cropping up with 1.2.2; I might be getting somewhere. But best for you to keep running with something that’s been tried and tested for a while, until I’ve release 1.3 after messing around with Greek and Finnish keyboard layouts.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:23 PM
Hi Roy, I’m afraid this won’t load either – I still get the message ‘Application quit unexpectedly’. I’m just at a loss now and off to find the volumes in the garage. If there is anything else I can try please let me know. Thanks again, sorry to be such a bother I realise this is all your own time
October 27th, 2009 at 10:54 PM
Hi again Roy, I’ve downloaded a trial of Crossover and got it working so please don’t spend lots of your time on my problem. Hopefully something will come up that I can try before the trial runs out but I do have access now and can sort out my highlight for Thursday. Thanks
October 29th, 2009 at 08:49 AM
Hi, thanks for your great work! It works just fine. Only on e issue is confusing me. When i start WT-Library ist starts by saying: “You must close all wt-library windows to start setup. After that it starts up. But the small window does not disappear. Is that normal? I am using the german version….
October 29th, 2009 at 10:42 PM
Daniel, That is normal. The message you refer to comes from the Setup program on the installation CD. When you OK the message and eject the CD, the message disappears.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:28 PM
Sorry for the inconvenience but I cannot paste in a Mac document (for example) what I’ve copied from the WT Library [version 1.2.1 (257a515a0]. Please help. Thanks!
November 7th, 2009 at 06:52 PM
Dear Tomás, Sorry about that: missing out the Copy-and-Paste fix was my mistake in version 1.2.1. Could you download and run version 1.2.5 instead. I think that will solve the problem.
November 9th, 2009 at 06:55 PM
There is a problem with Korean input. As in it doesn’t work at all. You have to type the korean in some mac application, copy, then paste in WTLIB. But using the actual Keyboard is broken when in Korean input. :(
November 9th, 2009 at 09:52 PM
Bryan, Chinese and Japanese have similar issues. Fundamentally, all the Wine-based text input fields are not real Mac text input fields. Hence they do not support the Mac’s multi-language input mechanisms. And that’s not an easy nut to crack!
November 19th, 2009 at 07:01 AM
Hello. I am a brother from Japan. I installed the package and WT Library Japanese version. But texts (Japanese) in the document area of the Library are garbled. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance,
November 20th, 2009 at 06:17 AM
I have just updated to the newer version of your app, but I’m noticing the Favorites don’t work. The add Favorites and the folder which you used to be able to navigate to organize them or add some sent from a friend have disappeared. Which used to be found here: Your Home Directory/Library/Application Support/Watchtower Library/drive_c/user/Your Home Directory/Application Data/Watchtower/Research Favorites/E/
November 21st, 2009 at 08:56 AM
Dear Hisa, I don’t have a Japanese edition of the library with which to test, unfortunately. It’s likely a font mapping problem. But there is also the keyboard input method issue relating to Chinese, Japanese and Korean input.
Grant, This is most likely because the new version of the app has a different name on your computer. If you give the app the same name as the old one, your favourites should reappear. At least, it sounds a bit like that problem. I’ve retested favourites at my end; all working.
November 27th, 2009 at 10:27 PM
Roy,
I dont know what was going on, but I went ahead and deleted it and reinstalled everything it seems to back to normal!
Thanks again appreciate all your hard work on this!
November 28th, 2009 at 01:36 PM
Thanks for all the hard work! I’m so happy I can use the WT library on my Mac now! Thanks again!
November 28th, 2009 at 06:27 PM
Does it work with Mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard?
November 28th, 2009 at 10:44 PM
Elvis (the real one?!!!), yes it does work. Let us know if you have a problem. Alternatively check out the FAQ section on the website
November 30th, 2009 at 03:26 AM
Roy…I have same problem as earlier post. I have OX 4.11 and says needs 5 to load. What to do??
November 30th, 2009 at 01:56 PM
Hi Julienne. I’m afraid Watchtower Library for Mac only works for OS X versions 10.5 or above. If you are running on Tiger (10.4) on an Intel-based machine, I recommend upgrading your operating system. If running on a PowerPC-based machine, unfortunately there is currently no working solution to running Watchtower library programs on your Mac. Sorry, I hope this helps!

December 4th, 2009 at 10:38 PM
Hi. I’m running OSX 10.6 snow leopard. When I was running on 10.5 everything was OK. Watchtower library was working great without any problems until I update to 10.6. I was using WTLIB by CrossOver 8.0 (which works also with 10.6), but now the library isn’t working with CrossOver or even with your application. Installation of WTLIB is proceeding very well but when I try to start WTLIB, it (the pink rectangle with WTLIB title) just blinks for a second and dissapear without any effect. What can I do with my problem? How to force it to start working? Thanks for possible help. Greetings from Poland. Your brother, Mateusz.
December 7th, 2009 at 03:48 AM
Hi Brother, I have a desktop Mac OS X 10.4.11. Up till now I’ve had to use virtual PC to utilize my WT Library. But the 2008 won’t work with it. Will this link work for an older Mac like mine?
December 7th, 2009 at 12:22 PM
Hi Betsie Roy. Please check further up the blog comments at number 107 (my reply to Julienne), I think this will help to answer your question.
December 7th, 2009 at 10:01 PM
Dear Lemon, So it sounds like the library has installed successfully. However, launching fails. Could you check your Console log to see what messages appear.
December 10th, 2009 at 01:23 PM
Hi Roy. When I trying to star WTLIB Console log show me this text: 09-12-10 14:19:59 [0×0-0×322322].uk.me.royratcliffe.Watchtower_Library82142 Thu Dec 10 14:19:59 iMac-lemon-2.local quartz-wm82361 : kCGErrorIllegalArgument: CGSSetWindowParent: null parent window id
December 11th, 2009 at 07:23 AM
Dear Lemon, I see. It refers to
quartz-wm; that’s the Xquartz (a.k.a. X11) window manager. So the problem relates to X11. Yet you are on a Snow Leopard machine, yes? 10.6 includes X11 as a pre-installed component. I wonder, have you installed another version of X11, something from the Xquartz Open Source distribution for instance?December 11th, 2009 at 12:13 PM
I’m very pleased with this feature. I now have the best of the computer world, being able to have the wt lib on my mac. Will this feature work with the Iphone or will you make a fix for it? Agape George
December 15th, 2009 at 01:25 AM
just a great thank you for this program…new to mac computer…but is far superior to old pc…glad we could get library onto it !!! next would be easy program for us computre illiterates to do library to i-pod touch…thanks again…brian
December 16th, 2009 at 07:41 PM
Hi Roy! As you said, issue was about X11. I tried to reinstall it but it didn’t help. At last I read somewhere that creating the new user account on Mac can help. And it was right. It helped me and now I can use WTLIB as well as it possible. Thanks for helping. Greetings from Poland.
December 21st, 2009 at 04:40 PM
Thank you, my library ‘08 works nicely even without my paralles 3.0.
December 23rd, 2009 at 08:34 PM
Hi Roy … This application is very very special … it give us a great help using a Mac sistem … only one question for you….How can i install on my Mac different watchtower library lenguage on it ??? thank you
December 23rd, 2009 at 09:38 PM
Hi Luca. To install more than one language CDROM, just insert the CD into the drive. You can do this as many times as you want with different editions. Just go to the Applications menu bar in Watchtower Library for Mac to see your different editions. You can also specify which opens automatically within the Applications-Customise panel. By default they all open automatically but you might find this gets messy and slow if you have a lot of different languages!!
December 26th, 2009 at 12:41 AM
A Brother was successful in installing this program but we’re having difficulties with mine. Error message “Watchtower Library quit unexpectedly.” Tried installing “setup.exe” but the same error still happens. I’m running Snow Leopard and now my Fusion isn’t working. Bootcamp works but hate to go there. Help!!
December 26th, 2009 at 10:15 AM
Hi Nate, Could you check your Console log. There’s an app under Applications/Utilities called Console. Please run it and see what messages appear when the error occurs.
December 26th, 2009 at 06:10 PM
The message is “Saved crash report for Watchtower Library [2936] version ? (?) to /User/runsharp/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Watchtower Library_2009_12_26_00 0219_nate_waipas-macbook-pro.crash.
The message before that one is “([0×0-0×109109].uk.ne.royratcliffe.watchtower_Library2936 Job appears to have crashed:Trace/BPT trap. Help!!
December 26th, 2009 at 10:13 PM
Hi Nate, Could you file a bug and upload the crash report at the projects.royratcliffe.me.uk development part of the site. The crash report will tell us what is happening, or not as the case may be.
December 26th, 2009 at 11:36 PM
If they friends are looking for help installing wtlib on their iPhones or other devices they can go to www.meekspace.com
December 27th, 2009 at 04:42 AM
Sorry Roy but I don’t understand your instructions. What is “file a bug and upload the crash report at he projects….......” mean? Is there a way I can start from ground zero? I’m ashamed to admit it but going the “PC” route that I’ve come to accept is looking better and that’s making me “crash” emotionally. Oh so envious of those who got it working.
December 27th, 2009 at 03:28 PM
Hi Nate, Sorry my instructions are not clear. It should be straightforward for most users. It seems that some do have a few issues initially. Do you have iChat running? You can dial me up at royratcliffe (AIM) or royratcliffe@jabber.org.
December 29th, 2009 at 04:51 AM
I’ve got something that may help if you can give me an email to send it to. Nate

This is great!!! Now I can get Window off my MAC.
Many Thanks…..
February 3rd, 2010 at 06:30 AM
Sorry, the link isn’t working (download)
February 3rd, 2010 at 05:34 PM
Please ignore my last post. It look’s like you have an old link on your instruction page, but the correct version on the main page. It works like a charm. I already informed a few friends about the application.

Hello. I love the WT for Mac! Thank you for your hard work. I loaded the 2009 onto my Macbook Pro but on my wife’s Macbook I can’t get it to load. I install the disc and it just ejects it moments later. I also tried inserting the 2008 WT CD and it also does nothing other than eject the CD. I really need to load it onto my wife’s Macbook if possible. Could you respond with suggestions to my email address please. Thank you! Duane

Help needed for WT on Snow Leopard. Many messages on the Console like this: err:module:import_dll Library MSVCP90.dll (which is needed by L”C:\\Programme\\Watchtower\\MEPS Platform 2.2\\mepsgui22u.dll”) not found err:module:import_dll Library MSVCR90.dll (which is needed by L”C:\\Programme\\Watchtower\\MEPS Platform 2.2\\mepsgui22u.dll”) not found err:module:import_dll Library mepsgui22u.dll (which is needed by L”C:\\Programme\\Watchtower\\MEPS Platform 2.2\\mepsbrowser22u.dll”) not found The installation runs perfect, and the program runs, but the WT Windoc can’t be seen on the screen. I run WT-Lib on an other MAC with Leopard 10.5, the symbol on the Dock shows a little “2” during running the program . On the Snow Leopard machine there is a “1” on the symbol? I installed the programm new, same result. Any ideas? thank you
February 16th, 2010 at 08:11 PM
Andreas, Roy thinks that your official CD might be corrupt. Half a dozen bros have reported similar problems and borrowing another CD seems to have fixed it.
February 20th, 2010 at 10:54 AM
Hello Rachel, hello Roy,
another CD -> same Problems
at the begin of installation there are some informations create c:users, startmenü, programme…. Ziel (target) c: watchtower, Meps platform… mistake during creating link to c:users, public, startmenü….
I tried to use other direktories like c:programme, c:watchtower, always the same mistakes
despaired….. going to buy parallels going for field service now
February 22nd, 2010 at 08:37 AM
Good morning, I tried to make everything new. I inserted the CD and uninstalled the WT files. Then I tried to install it new. I only got a little Window, “verifying installer 10%...20%...etc.” and then nothing happend. But I found some other informationes on this site, where the watchtower files on the mac are located. I controlled this, and there was nothing deleted. Now I’d like to clean the system, but I’m not shure which directory or folder I should delete for a complete cleaning. I installed your programm on 2 more IMacs, everything works great (Leopard 10.5) so I’m shure that it is possible to run it on this MacBook (Snow Leopard) You can answer also on my e-mail adress. Thank you for your good work.
February 22nd, 2010 at 08:45 AM
Hi Andreas, Best thing I think would be to contact me directly via iChat so we can screen share. You can get me at royratcliffe (AIM) or royratcliffe@jabber.org (Jabber). Regards, Roy

Hello Roy: Well, I find in the website the link for Disk Image 1,3 and I downloaded. It finish and it opens the window to move the WTL Image to App. But the framework package is missing. So I follow the rest of the instructions but it doesn’t work. It just finish but freezes, Didn’t start the install process. Please help and thanks

Greetings, I installed 2009 spanish version and it works great, but now I also want to install english version, how do i it? Thank you
March 12th, 2010 at 08:22 AM
Hello, I installed 2009 spanish version and it works great, but now I also want to install english version, how do I do it? Thank you (I insert the cd and a Installer Windows pops up showing the install percentage process, but then another window pops up telling me “Please close all windows of Watchtower Library before running the install”
March 12th, 2010 at 09:19 PM
Rodrigo, Can you let us know if you are using an original copy of the CDROM? The package will only work with an official copy or a disc image if you drag the
Setup.exefrom the CD to the Dock icon.Jay, You install multiple language versions in the exact same way. Just close down the Libraries, keep the App running, then insert the CDROM.
March 13th, 2010 at 12:31 AM
Hello Rachel: Behind a grat man is always a great Woman- Roy is blessed. Well, I have the original CD ROM of the 2009 Spanish version. What I can’t find when I finish to download the package is the “Framework” icon on the Step 1 of the instructions. I have the icon of the image to dran to apps in the step 2 /and I did it) but the step 1 is missing. Best regards from Mexico. I love to know personnally your Country
March 19th, 2010 at 04:12 PM
Hello Guys: I’m still open to hear about the issue described on comment 144. Any idea? Thanks
March 19th, 2010 at 05:16 PM
Hi Rodrigo, Sorry for not replying promptly. I’ve been somewhat distracted with the campaign, plus the convention preparations on top of pioneering, etc. My bad. Rachel’s been helping me out.
Anyway, no problem about the framework. It was a feature of the previous versions. You no longer need it! Actually, the framework is part of the app; lives inside it. Makes it easier to install and uninstall.
March 22nd, 2010 at 05:13 AM
Roy: Thank you and Rachel. I didn’t know about Framework relay on the app itself. The thing here is how to install it. So here is somo info how I missed and how it works after all in case somebody has the same issue: After I drag the icon onto the App Icon, ectract the files very well. But after that, when I ran your app, a new window is opened “Welcome to the Watchtowr Library for Mac!” .... and nothing happens…. for a lapse of two minutes or so… But, suddenly, the installation process begins, just click Next and works very well. My mistake was extract the disk in the lapse of the two minutes described above. But if you let it run.. it will. for sure. Thank you Brothers for your effort. Your works will help me and my family very well in our common purpouse: Spread the Truth. Best regards
April 4th, 2010 at 01:08 AM
Roy, thanks for having a program that runs the library. I am having one problem. I can highlight a section but when I right click it will not open the menu to cut, paste, etc. It just unhighlights. What can I do. Again thanks. Tim
April 4th, 2010 at 08:46 AM
Hi Tim, Sounds like mouse configuration. Do you have the right-click configured as Secondary Button?
April 6th, 2010 at 01:22 AM
Roy, I use the control button and then click. It works on my other documents. Any other suggestions. Tim
April 6th, 2010 at 08:16 AM
Basic fact is that its a Windows program, not a Mac one; it does not know it’s running on a Mac. Hence it’s not bound by the same conventions and rules. Mouse and keyboard events pass to the Windows layer of software. How and when the software responds depends entire on the Windows app.
April 8th, 2010 at 02:32 AM
Hi Roy,
Just tried opening up the library for the first time after upgrading to 10.6.3 from 10.6.2, and the program says there is no library installed. Do I need to point the program to where the files are located? Should I reinstall? Or should I just trash the app & start from scratch?
April 13th, 2010 at 03:44 AM
Hi Roy,
Well, I went to my home/Library/ApplicationSupport and saw that the Watchtower Library.app is crossed out, and when I double-click on it, it says it may be damaged or incomplete. So I’ll trash the files & attempt a reinstall & keep you posted.
April 15th, 2010 at 08:41 AM
Hope it works out Peter.
April 15th, 2010 at 04:49 PM
I reinstalled without a hitch. Don’t know why the upgrade to 10.6.3 damaged the files, but at least reinstalling went OK.

Hi, does anybody know how I can copy an article from a mac .pdf reader to the clipboard for watchtower for mac.
my problem is: it works in the other direction (from watchtower for mac copy it to e.g. word for mac) very good. but when i want to copy it from word for mac to watchtower for mac the menu entry “insert” is unavailable.
anybody who knows a solution for me?
September 6th, 2010 at 08:50 AM
Dear Titus, Not sure I entirely follow you. By “insert” do you mean Paste? You should be able to paste text from any Mac application into the library using Ctrl+V or select Paste from the Edit menu, or secondary-click and Paste from the pop-up menu if that makes sense.
